GUIDE TO CHOOSING AN INSTITUTION
Start your research at least one year before you want to go.
Ask some independent advice first- the British Council, IDP, The Institute of International Education (USA) etc.
Attend some presentations and find out what courses would be suitable for you and where those courses are taught
It is an advantage if you have done an IELTS test or a diagnostic English test so you know your English level.
DON't make a choice based only on other people's opinions, get all the facts first.
Here is a checklist:
Does the location appeal to you?
Do you have any friends there or living near?
Are there other Vietnamese students?
Do you know anything about this institution?
Do you know where you will stay in the holidays and how much it will cost?
Are you sure you know exactly what is included in the price? (eg extra English, sports, meals at weekends, internet, laundry, books, uniform...)
If you are offered a scholarship, do you know exactly what it covers and what you will have to pay?
Where will you stay? If you are under 18 there are special rules for your protection, you must ask about this. If it is a homestay family, are they properly checked? Who in the College is in charge of accommodation?
If you are following a Higher Education course at a private college, which body will accredit your degree?
Is the price of your course similar to that of other courses? If it is too cheap (without scholarship) check out the accreditation very carefully. Do not be afraid to ask a professional body such as the British Council or IDP for help if you are unsure of anything.
TIP: Never pay a deposit until you are 100% sure this is what you want and all your questions have been answered satisfactorily.
TIP: Don't believe everything other people tell you- always check with an independent source.
