INTRODUCTION FOR BOARDING SCHOOLS
Boarding Schools are commonly known as Independent Schools ~ sometimes called private or public schools.Almost all are non-profit foundations and all are regularly and thoroughly inspected. Most schools are located near but not in towns and cities, but the location is not important because Britain has excellent transport links. Boarding Schools provide students with the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sporting and extra-curricular activities. Almost all schools have their own private campus with a wide range of first class facilities for sciences, sport, music, the creative and performing arts. Boarding schools provide a very safe environment for study and recreation. Students live in separate boarding houses for boys and girls situated on the campus. Boarding houses are supervised by resident house-parents who provide advice, guidance & support. In most schools, A-level students will normally have a single study-bedroom, although in some they may have to share a room with one other student.
University progression
Boarding schools have small classes usually l2 students or less in an A-level class .
They consistently achieve excellent results in public examinations - A-level pass rates in excess of 90% are usual . Boarding schools have a long tradition of welcoming international students and Vietnamese students are very happy studying in Britain . They achieve places at all the top UK universities including Oxford , Cambridge , the London School of Economics, Imperial College London, Warwick , Bath , Nottingham , etc.
Fees and costs
All boarding schools charge fees which are inclusive of tuition, accommodation and meals. The fees for British & international students are the same. All TEC schools offer generous academic scholarships of up to 50% of total costs (equivalent to 100% of tuition fees).
Guardianship
The academic year is divided into 3 terms, and between each term there is a holiday . There is also a short holiday in the middle of the term. Most schools close during these holidays and students must have a guardian who can look after them at this time. They have a friend or relative in the UK who will take care of them, or they can join a British family which will provide homestay accommodation in the holidays. TEC can arrange guardianship at all its schools for those who need it. Study holidays are also available for those who need more English support in vacation time.
